This guide covers how to check the SIP trunk registration status in the customer portal along with a breakdown and explanation of the different registration status details displayed in the pop-up.
How to check SIP Trunk Registration
SIPTRUNK offers the capability to view real-time active registrations on a SIP trunk in the customer portal. To view this, hover over the SIP Trunking menu and choose the SIP Trunks submenu option. You can view all SIP trunks on the account on this page. Click on "View Trunk Registration Status" for a SIP trunk and a pop-up will display registration details.
The Trunk Registration Status feature shows whether the Trunk is REGISTERED or NOT REGISTERED. If the Trunk shows REGISTERED, the following details are viewable:
IP Address and contact port - The first IP in the address string notes the IP provided by your PBX for the contact info. SIPTRUNK will attempt to contact this IP and port for all inbound call traffic. You must always program this contact string to be the public IP, but you may set whatever port desired and we will contact you at that port. The second IP in the address string, preceded by "alias," indicates the actual IP and port you are contacting us from. These two IPs must match and must be public IPs. We typically recommend matching your ports as well, but a proper NAT policy with port forwarding does not require a match.
Gateway: This tells you which gateway your SIP trunk is registered to. You will either see the SIP device registered to multiple gateways, or only a single set of registration details if you only registered to a single gateway. If you use a DNS SRV record to register your SIP device, you will only see a single registration, but the registration will automatically resolve to another gateway in the event of a loss of registration to gw1.siptrunk.com. It is recommended to register to multiple gateways or use an SRV record. See our articles on Interconnecting with SIPTRUNK and Call Failover Options for more information.
User Agent: The name of the SIP device registered to the SIP trunk displays in this field. Some devices may provide generic information while others will provide specific firmware/software builds. This can assist in troubleshooting configuration issues.
Expires: This refers to your registration interval, the amount of time your device will wait until it sends a new registration to update and ensure a consistent connection. Register interval is defined in the SIP device, so you may set whatever value you want. We recommend 60-120 seconds.
Remove Registration: This function allows you to manually clear your active SIP registration on demand if you are troubleshooting and need to update the registration with new details.
Please open a support ticket with support@siptrunk.com if you experience any issues with registering your SIP trunk and we will be happy to take a look!
